The Côte-Nord region of Quebec offers some great riding.
The highlight of a trip to the North Shore region is the run north up a couple of hundred kilometres on the twisty pavement of Hwy 389 to the spectacular Manic 5 hydro dam – the largest dam of it’s kind in the world. Manic 2, it’s little brother, is just outside of Baie Comeau and it’s the second largest dam of it’s kind on the planet, and worth a side trip as well (if you’re into pretty cool civil engineering stuff). There are tours at Manic 5, also well worth it, and a restaurant at the dam to fuel up before a “spirited” ride back south. Click --> here <-- for more info.
Other rides in the area
The North Shore highway continues along some pretty spectacular coastline along the Gulf of St Lawrence for another few hundred kms, with scenic towns and photo ops a-plenty. Blue whales come into the gulf to give birth to their young and there are plenty of other marine mammals (whales, porpoises, seals) along the coast, and quite a few whale-watching opportunities (boats, zodiacs) as well. The road back to Tadoussac, and then up the Saguenay fjord is also recommended.Click here!
